Today I drilled the elevator horns, sorry no pictures while doing the work. I made a sandwich out of five pieces of 0.125 flat stock and drilled a # 30 hole using my drill press to get it straight. I then drilled the right horn at the "plans indicated" spot and then clamped the sandwich between the horns with the counterbalances clamped into neutral. After that I used the sandwich as a drill guide. It came3 out perfect. A whole lot of worry over nothing.

This is the sandwich. I know it looks uneven but it was clamped the entire time so that nothing could move. When I clamped it into the two horns the pilot drill slipped through the first horn and the sandwich and made contact with the second horn with just a little finger pressure.

These two shots show the result with one counterbalance clamped and the other free and set by the pushrod attachment. They are perfectly in alignment.
