AUGUST 29, 2007

This is the mount for the plxiglass to the canopy frame. It will be riveted and screwed together later. For now I have used 4-40 screws to hold it together so I can build the side and rear skirts. You will see these in a little while.

A closer shot of the same.

The next step is to build a tape mold to lay up the skirts against. First I used masking tape followed by duct tape for strength followed by blue painters tape.

This is the gap that the skirt covers.

The same gap.

All the tape is on and the lines are drawn to show the size of the skirts.

The first layer of glass is installed.

There are four pieces of glass to make the entire skirt. The skirt will be five layers thick so it will take twenty pieces of material to make.

This is the first layer of carbon fiber. I decided later to use only one carbon layer so there are four fiberglass and one carbon fiber layers.

A shot over the back.

The bump for the slider rail.

The next three shots show the finished lay up.

The skirt/fairing is now removed from the tape and is shown here partially mounted.

From the other side.

From the rear.

Another from the rear.
